Migration Health
Migration Health With people increasingly on the move within and across borders, population mobility has increased implications for both migrants travelling, as well as those who remain behind. IOM in Sudan, through the Migration Health Division, provides immigration health assessments to a range of migrants and refugees. The pre-migration health assessments ensure dignified, orderly, and safe migration and travel as migration may make migrants more vulnerable to health risks and threats.
The IOM Sudan Migration Health Assessment Center (MHAC) provides the following services:
- United Kingdom Tuberculosis (UKTB) Screening - As part of the travel health assistance activities, IOM provides TB screening to UK visa applicants who intend to stay in the UK for six months or more.
- Full Immigration Health Assessments- IOM Sudan provides resettlement health assessments for refugees resettling in several countries including Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, among others. In addition, full health assessments are also provided for visa applicants who wish to travel to Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
- Predeparture Medical Screenings/Fitness to Travel Medical Screening- Predeparture medical screenings are also provided for all migrants travelling under IOM auspices to assure safety during travel and adequate preparation and support to those with complex medical conditions.
- DNA Testing– DNA sample collection for testing is conducted for family reunification for those travelling to Netherlands, Italy, Canada, and UK.
- Vaccination- The Migration Health Division is responsible for vaccination of those travelling to various countries as per the receiving countries technical instructions.
Note-Due to ongoing conflicts in Khartoum since 15th April 2023, the IOM MHAC in Khartoum is currently closed. Urgent migration health services can be obtained in our new location in Kassala town. Please see details below.
