IOM Sudan completed its two day training on Human trafficking and Protection of Victims for 30 Migration Officers working in the Alien’s Department of the Ministry of Interior. As part of IOM’s regional counter-human trafficking project (NOAH-III) covering the North-East African Migratory route and funded by the U.S State department’s Bureau of Population, Refugee, and Migration (BPRM); the training will sensitize migration officers on the concepts of human trafficking, smuggling and Sudan’s Anti – trafficking Law.

All participants directly deal with migrants on issues of irregular stay, detentions of migrants and permissions for exit visas. The trainers include the Alien’s Department’s Col. Mahmoud Suliman, Head of the Aliens Department’s Field Operations Inspectorate, IOM regional expert staff, Heba Abdul Latif from Cairo and Tagel Solomon from Sudan Migration Management Unit. Participants include officers from various States across Sudan, especially those working along migratory routes. Mr. Ali Akasha, Head of Police in Fashaga, East Sudan; expressed his keenness to participate in the training, stating the importance of conducting similar trainings reaching more junior officers at the various offices outside Khartoum; who will make use of such knowledge.
