Identification and Protection of Victims of Trafficking in Sudan

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Sudan, in collaboration with the Legal Aid Commission, conducted training on ‘Victims of Trafficking and Self Identification’ on 25 May 2022 in Khartoum.

The training aims to enhance technical capacities of 20 legal counsels and consultants on providing protection of victims of trafficking (VoT) at the humanitarian and legal level, raising awareness on human trafficking, potential victims’ screening, and victim identification, referral services as well as increase understanding on all aspects of counter-trafficking, including prevention, protection, prosecution and partnership.

Sudan has a complex and diverse migration profile as a major source, transit and destination country at the centre of multiple migration routes. Over the past decade, thousands of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers have been transiting to and through Sudan which currently host millions of displaced persons many of which are at increased risk of exploitation and abuse, including human trafficking.

This training is part of IOM’s larger programming to combat trafficking in persons and support vulnerable migrants in Sudan.
