Darfur – Improving Livelihoods of Women in Darfur The Zamzam Women’s Training Center was established in 2015 in the Zamzam Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, North Darfur with funding from the Government of Japan. The center is a training venue that will help vulnerable women like Haziza and others to enhance their income as breadwinners in their homes. Haziza is 30. She reached Zamzam Camp 5 years ago from Shangil Tobay, South of El Fasher. Before she attended the sewing and tailoring skills course in 2014 she had already received training thanks to a National NGO, yet the training helped her fine-tune her skills. When she graduated from the IOM training she received a sewing machine as start-up kit for her activities. “I started designing and tailoring clothes and received four or five women a day in my workshop at home.” Six months ago her sector of the camp was affected by fire and she lost many household items, including her sewing machine.
